It always touches me when listening to our First Lady’s 在希望的田野上. As, from eastern culture’s view, the earth civilization is all built on top of 田 – fields & soils. The world 田 is the basis for:
甲: Basically, it means the husk of a seed germinated in a field, emphasizing that something underground sprouts, a new life begins to grow.
由: It has the meaning of new branches of trees. Vividly it highlights that something grows out of the field.
申: It is a sign that the above-ground & underground fields are connected. It is related to ancient God-heaven worship. 申 is the root word of 神 which means God, spirit, heaven.
鬼: when there is something that covers 田, and things have to develop underground but can’t grow above, it means ghost, devil & demon.
Now, 自由-freedom, which is something related to God & spirit. The 自-self is telling us to put our hands above our eyes-目 to self-observe. Ancestors knew human hands, fingers, and eyes are connected to hearts.
